My Approach
Therapy can be daunting for some, and feel like home for others. My goal of working with you is to meet you where you are at, and foster an environment of warmth, safety, and understanding that enables us to grow together. I understand that life can feel overwhelming, challenging, and leave us feeling like we don’t know where to turn next. Through compassion and authenticity, I encourage you to explore what gets you “stuck”, and the barriers that prevent you from healing.
Throughout our work together, I will use an integrative approach in which I will draw from a variety of therapeutic styles. My approach is strongly rooted in supporting you to understand how your past experiences and relationships may impact your present struggles, while creating an empathetic environment to support you in your growth and self-discovery. I do not see therapy as a ‘one size fits all’ and believe each client requires a unique approach that will best suit their needs.
I view the therapeutic relationship as one of the most important parts of therapy, and strive to create a safe and trusting environment for clients to feel that they can share authentically in a secure space. For the first few sessions, we will take our time in understanding what brings you to therapy, and what challenges you are seeking to work through. We will get to know one another and build a foundation of trust and safety.
As we continue our work together, you can expect us to slowly explore more of the underlying issues that may be contributing to what brings you to therapy. Often times, we have learned to avoid the thoughts and feelings that may feel too daunting or overwhelming to face. As a result, we go to great lengths to distract ourselves from moving through these feelings and instead move away from them.
I will compassionately support you in building awareness of the feelings that may feel difficult to tolerate, as well as the self-narratives and defenses that may be keeping you in “stuck” patterns. Together we will walk through and understand your lived experience, while gently encouraging you to re-define your relationship with what is no longer serving you.
